This Transgender Model Is Ready to Share the Screen with Sheheryar Munawar and Mahira Khan

Having a transgender child in Pakistan is almost equivalent of committing a sin. The very moment a trans child enters this world even before he could open his eyes and look at his family, they are secretly sold off to the transgender community. Talking about the transgender community, it is without any doubt the most marginalized group in our society, they enjoy the least amount of respect or rights.

The subject of transgender rights is so “hush hush” that it has not even made it to the list of topics that are important to have a discussion upon, maybe due to the controversial nature and typical mindset of the citizens of this nation besides them facing intense personal scrutiny as well as institutional discrimination, and continuously making efforts for them to be recognized as the third gender. Having said that the majority still don’t acknowledge them as part of their communities. Massive rejections have somewhat become a part of a transgender’s life.

Rimal Ali is Pakistan’s first transgender model. She has a degree from Punjab University but she went up for what she is most passionate about- dancing. Around the month of February, a video was released by a popular music band Soch named ‘Dholna’ which featured a transgender model, Rimal Ali, which was not welcomed by the Pakistani audience but caught the attention of BBC World

and Now This. In the music video, the lines “Is ishq na janay tenu ki keeta, hai dard bhi kamli, tu hans k peeta. Is ishq wafa mein tu ne kya paya, hai apnay sath hi, dhoka keeta.” have especially been written for Rimal who is a childhood friend of the band members. In one of her statements, she said, “Come out of the darkness and the world WILL accept you. Just be bold and strong!” and then she pleads to the ‘regular’ people to accept them, as it is not their fault for being born this way.
