Kashmir has always been the highlight of politics and injustice. Recently, some pictures surfaced which took some media attention. It was an angry Kashmiri girl, Afshan Ashiq, bachelor of Arts student, who decided to take justice into her own hands.
This 23-year-old female college student was caught on camera, with a dupatta covered face, throwing stones at security forces in Srinagar. This obviously leads to a lot of heated discussion by the people, them too taking matters into their own hands about deciding whether it was a right thing for a young college student to do. Especially being a young female who took matters into her own hands.

Afshan Ashiq got under the spotlight because of her controversial photograph and soon after, her life unbelievably changed. She even got the opportunity to meet the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who understood her perspective and decided to help her in promoting women’s football in Kashmir. This all limelight results in Afshan becoming a captain and goalkeeper of Kashmir’s women’s football team that is now getting exposure at the national level and also competing in the Indian Women’s League.
Regarding Afshan’s stone-propelling incident she said, “We might be women, but we are not weak. The police abuse us and our family members as they have no regard towards women. The girls would not have bombarded them with stones. Afshan added, “..had the police not misbehaved with them. They forced us to pelt stones on them on that day, with their misbehavior, otherwise, we never protest in our lives and never pelt stones on anyone.”
Afshan said it was a reaction triggered by the abusive language of the cops and some hitting the team member when she was escorting to the football ground at the time. “I don’t regret anything. I would not have picked up a stone had it not been for the misbehavior of the police,” she mentioned.
After explaining, defending and realizing what has become she continued by saying..“But now I have a reputation and image to maintain. I want to focus on football and make my state and nation proud.”
