A Girl lost her Cat at a Clinic in Islamabad and the Negligent Staff Said, “We Don’t Give a Damn”

When a patient is admitted to a hospital, it is the duty of the staff to look after him or her. The medical staff members are responsible for that particular person till the time they are admitted for medical services. In case of humans, they are blessed with communication sense and the ability to find their path. In case of animals, however, the scenario is different. They can’t communicate the way us humans do and therefore, they require extra attention.

Marriya Malik from Islamabad was put in one of the worst experiences of her life and that involved losing her pet cat. As narrated by Marriya, this incident involves private pet clinic Dr. Khan situated in E11 Sector, Islamabad.

Please note: Marriya has no intentions of humiliating the involved individuals as her only concern is to get her pet cat back which was lost due to the irresponsibility of the Dr. Khan Animal Clinic.

Here’s What Marriya Shares:

Right from the moment I witnessed crudeness, absurdity, irresponsibility and unprofessionalism in the purest of forms, I kept on thinking on how to go about this…I thought and I thought some more. I’m not the person who’s a proponent of bringing others down or spoiling their reputation because they did something wrong, but I believe one has to put their foot down at some point, if not to redeem the loss, then at least to prevent it from happening again.

I was put in a similar situation when I admitted my cat at Dr. Khan’s clinic (E11 Islamabad) two days ago as he was suffering from consistently high temperature. When I went back to pick him up, I was casually told that it ran away. I was told that he managed to crack open the lock and escape because ‘Sherlock’. There was no remorse, no embarrassment, no nothing. No one even apologized or showed any compassion. I freaked out and rushed outside looking for him and did so for hours. I couldn’t sleep the whole night and left for E11 at 5 am the next morning to look for him.

I searched every nook and corner, every floor of every building under construction, every street, but no luck. I came back and went again around noon when the clinic opened to see if they are doing something about it, but they weren’t. They were busy checking other patients and sitting calmly in their clinics. I dragged one of their guy’s out to help me in the search. I got flyers printed and went door to door with a friend, and the clinic’s representative joined us later for roughly 20 mins while we were at it for hours.

Tired and depressed, my friend and I got back to the clinic to speak to the doctor, who was going about his day to day work with the rest of his staff instead of searching for the cat. That was the moment I had a meltdown, right in the face of insensitivity. Where’s humanity? Where’s professionalism? Where is common courtesy and care? Why even get into a profession when you don’t have the heart and soul for it?

I stayed polite till the very end and probably that’s why they did not pay any attention to me, or maybe because I was a woman and who cares what a woman says. I was crying and was not in a position to speak so I asked my friend to step forward and handle the situation assertively. As soon as he started asking questions and forced them to step up their search and take responsibility for the mishap, things took a drastic turn. I was baffled and shook by the way they started speaking which was nothing less than abuse and aggressiveness in the purest of forms. They started talking trash, using foul language, blamed us for “badmaashi” and whatever they could possibly say to make everyone around think that we were the bad guys.

I was embarrassed and hurt and in an effort to maintain respect and dignity, I did not stoop to their level but yes I did threaten them with suing their clinic and trying my best to shut their services down to which to they responded, “yeh police kya bigaarh karlegi. Aap sue to samjhti kya hain, hmaray bhi 2 hath aur 2 paaon hain. Jo karna hain karlen. Esii ki taisi aapki! Jayen, jo ukhhaar sakti hain ukhaar lein!” (Police cannot do shit. What do you even think you can do by suing? We won’t take it, we are equally capable of pushing back. To hell with you, go do whatever you can. We don’t give a damn!)

Following this, we left the clinic as they blatantly refused to get me my cat back.

I do not have complete video recording, but I do have some clips highlighting their behavior. I’m speechless after all this. How do people like these even get a license to operate medical clinics? Where are the business ethics and basic morality? Why is there not any check and balance? Because there are animals involved and since ‘animals’ are not a superior creation, it makes everything ok? I thought animal care was supposed to be a noble profession. What’s this? Somebody needs to take a severe action against it. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. Just because what I admitted in their clinic was a cat and not a human, IT DOES NOT MAKE IT OKAY.

The Message Marriya has in Addition to the Action She Will Take Against the Clinic

That being said,
– I will sue the clinic for carelessness, irresponsibility & for not taking care of “my property”IF I do not get it back.

NOTE:
Yes, I have deliberately hidden the faces in videos and have taken out the names as I did not feel it was right to violate someone personally. I DO NOT WANT TO HUMILIATE ANYONE OR CAUSE ANY HUMAN ANY HARM, MY ONLY CONCERN IS TO SHARE MY BAD EXPERIENCE & SPEAK UP AGAINST THE UNFAIR PRACTICES IN ANIMAL CARE CLINICS in#Islamabad AND TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR FELLOW PET PARENTS, as I’m sure mine wasn’t the first case and definitely won’t be the last. I would appreciate it if I can get some help in spreading awareness about this issue so no other “doctor” in this or any other area of expertise dares to behave this way.

Very rightly, Marriya deserves to have her pet cat back as she left it with the clinic and it is their duty to look after it.

Hopefully, stern actions will teach them a listen.
