How often have we seen a public place that serves a ramp for those individuals who are wheelchair bound? Aside from the hospitals, can you name at least five different places in Pakistan which serve a ramp?

A few months back, there was an incident in Karachi where a specially-abled girl was denied entering the lawn of a famous club because “the tire tracks of her wheelchair ruins the grass.” This, however, is just one example. Seeing how none of the local public places entertain a ramp for the specially-abled shows how much they care about their social responsibility.

The disabled activist stated how being carried around on the wheelchairs in public spaces shatters the dignity of the individuals. Additionally, she also mentioned that a ramp doesn’t cost much to any organization for them to ignore building it in the first place.

For someone who is disabled, it definitely would be shattering to depend on someone else for small things such as moving across the stairs. Only the person going through this would be able to feel the agony and the pain. Maria Qureshi, in her firm and proposed attitude, is looking forward to bring change in the society.

As even Islam teaches us, “we must help others and make their path easier.” Perhaps we neglect people such as Maria Qureshi way too much to understand what they may be going through.

Wishing Maria Qureshi all the best towards bringing this change in the public places and in the mindsets of our people.
