Writing personal letters is often considered as a lost art. However, writing a letter is always a better way of expressing a feeling to someone than any other medium. In a new world full of technology this art has been lost yet, there are people who would prefer to write a personal letter to someone special and to enjoy its charm.
In today’s world of email, text messages and videos can be sent in no time. Imagine waiting, actually waiting for that letter from someone special to come. You could feel the anticipation growing within you.
A Personal Letter has a different charisma to it. Personal Letter is filled with emotions; sadness contempt, anger or simply love. You can live through the exact state the writer went through while writing it. It’s it transfers emotions from the writer to the reader.
Letters are unique to communication it activates the mind to go deep down in words to show how much love, care and respect you have for the person you are sending the letter to. it makes the writer enter into a trance which enables them to write more and more. Letters give us a good opportunity to stretch our writing muscles.
It need not be written on fancy stationery or an expensive card — It is just a way to show another person that you really care and whatever happens or how busy I am I would still have time for you and I would still write to you no matter what.
The art of personal letters is almost gone – well that’s what I think of but old stories from parents can boost your interest in personal letters, how in early 1900’s people would write to each other from thousands of miles across the country.
As I was sitting on a porch thinking about personal letters I ran across my neighbor who was in her late 70’s, as I approached her I instantly said Hey! How are you? She gently replied I am fine. I started with writing and personal letters genre and asked her that what she thinks about personal letters and that was it, she gave me a solid proof practically from her life about importance of personal letters, As she started with it this,
“My husband was working in a ship which imports and exports all around the world so he mostly spent his life abroad, he used to write me personal letters every month. Post Officer come in the end of the month and he gave me a package which contains several personal letters from my husband.
In the last letter, I told my husband to wrap every letter in a plastic bag because sometimes it gets messy and teary when it arrives and I don’t like that. Also, every letter should have a light smell of your cologne and please put a pair of his head hair. I told my husband in the previous letter to do so and send it but don’t ask me why.
My husband did exactly what I told him to do. Do you know why am I doing this? Because when his letters depart from his place and arrive it to me, it takes 4 weeks and it feels like it’s been years since I saw him. She said it with light tears in her eyes. When letters come in I put them in a basket and when I get completely free from work usually at night, I dim all my home lights and settle in my room, excitingly open one of the letters and smelled it with my eyes closed.
I swear it felt like he was right here next to me, his every word felt like he is right in front to me and I am listening to him and I always touch his pair of hair with my cheeks and it felt like I am in heaven my dear husband and that’s exactly what it felt like when you are writing or receiving a personal letter.”
For me it’s just a nice gesture because you are trying to keep an old time practice to make traditional things alive, back in days it was an art to write a personal letter, it does clearly express your understanding of your feelings or anger and how these feelings build on.
