Sania Mirza Declares Her Future Child’s Surname and We’re All Like “Aww”

Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik, the famous athlete family has always been very private about their personal life and family. Sania told in a recent interview that if she plans to have a family any time soon, she’d love to have a daughter. Also, that she would like to have “Mirza Malik as the surname of her child. Sania has always been proud how Shoaib and her have a very good chemistry and how they always stand together as a family.

She told in an interview:

“Today I will tell you a secret. My husband and I have spoken about it and we have decided that whenever we have a child, the child will have Mirza Malik as a surname and not just Malik. So that’s where we stand as a family including my husband. He actually wants a daughter.”

Sania and Anam with their infinite swag! 😀

Sania shared her experience of discrimination on how she faced so many of her relatives and fought all of them whenever her relatives would come to tell her parents how after 2 daughters, they should have a son.

“We are two sisters and have never wished that we had a brother. I have had fights with my uncles and aunts, who talk about it or come up and tell my parents that they should have had a son. For us, daughters are daughters and there was nothing like wanting a son to carry the family name forward.”

To further support her reasoning, she added that the reason people give that a family needs to have a boy is to carry the name forward. She never liked the bandwagon and didn’t even change her surname after marriage.

“I have not changed my surname (post marriage) and my name is still Sania Mirza and it will remain that way. The family name is going to go forward,”

Beautiful and bold

She later added when she was asked about what love advice would she give to herself and here’s what she had to say:

I need to be less possessive. I’m not insecure, I’m possessive. “There is a big difference, I think. I just am and I would love to be a little bit less. What I would like to do more communicate our problems or issues, if there are any, a little bit better.”

Sania and Shoaib make a very good couple in terms of handling the stardom and all the pros and cons that come with it. Many of us would support her point and would love people to respect women with continuing to have their surname. Cheers. 🙂
