Sania Zehra’s Death Exposes Domestic Violence Issue

The Multan police on Saturday registered a murder case against the husband and in-laws of 20-year-old Syeda Sania Zehra, a mother of two, found hanged in New Multan earlier this week. The Punjab government responded quickly after widespread social media outcry over her health.

Reports say Sania’s father filed a complaint leading to charges under sections 302 (intentional murder), 148 (rioting armed with a deadly weapon), and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Pakistan Penal Code. The lawsuit mentioned Sania was found hanging with signs of torture. Her husband, accused of abusing her and forcing her to sell her home, has since disappeared. Despite these serious allegations, no arrests have been made yet. Provincial officials assured the family of a thorough investigation, with a joint team already formed to ensure justice.
