Mariyam Nafees Stands Up for the Girls involved in Tuck Shop Incident
Adding to the conversation, Pakistani actress Mariyam Nafees spoke out in defense of the girls involved in the Lahore Garden Town Petrol Pump Tuck Shop incident. Sharing a video on her social media, she revealed their side of the story in a passionate statement:
“I know two of those girls and one is a very good friend of mine. They started beating the guy as a last resort when he started commenting about their bodies, calling them prostitutes and working girls.
“He also compared their bodies saying, ‘ye choti hai, ye bari hai,’ and all the sick things guys can do and say.
“After that, those girls said to him you can’t talk to us like this, after which he started using abusive language. He said vulgar words to them and asked them to leave the store, but the girls replied, ‘Why should we leave the store?’
Nafees further questioned, “Is this our safety, that girls cannot go out wearing Western clothes, jeans, and shirts just to have a single tea?”
Clarifying misconceptions, she added, “No one’s father is a lawyer, I don’t know what’s circulating on social media, but they are respectful girls from good families. They are not from powerful backgrounds, and one of the girls was from another city and came here for work. It’s not an act of power.
“What would those brothers and fathers do when someone like these guys harass their sisters and also threaten them with rape?”
“I would really like to know what you would do,” she questioned, concluding with, “This is sickening.”
