No, don’t even start by saying, “she shouldn’t have gone to such a public place in the first place.” Just don’t.
New Year’s Eve is not just for men to enjoy – even women want to see one of the best displays of fireworks in Pakistan. They want to be able to enjoy and film the colorful display of fireworks in the sky as well, just as men do. It is not a privilege to be asking for something as basic as being allowed to stand in a public place without being harassed.
It is definitely not okay if starts saying, “It happens in every part of the world. Not just in Lahore or Pakistan.” because that’s where when you fail to understand your societal responsibilities.
Lahore’s Bahria Town Lit the New Year’s In Style
Given how extravagant the display was last year, everybody was tempted to watch it this time and they definitely weren’t disappointed.

While the management focused on bringing an amazing display of fireworks in Bahria Town, what they failed to do was to implement some security measures for the vultures who would harass women at any given chance.
Saniya Yousuf, a Visitor from Karachi Went to Lahore’s Bahria Town to Welcome the New Year’s but Got Harassed Instead
Here’s how she narrated the story:
I attended Bahria Town’s new year eve last night and I must say I’ve never been around such perverted and shallow people ever. I was with my 4 cousin brothers and they circled around 3 of us girls but cheap Lahori guys didn’t leave any chance to harass us.

How Awful is That!
Condition got worse when we were leaving and all of us got separated because guys started to push everyone for reason at all, guys tried their best to take advantage of the situation and the situation left me crying.

Here’s More
My car was parked 6 km away and I had to walk all the way to the car and I was crying but the heartless people didn’t care at all, they kept doing what they liked. I wouldn’t even call them human, they were animals.
— Saniya (@Saniyazing) January 1, 2018
The saddest part is that I wasn’t the only girl who was harassed, there were number of girls crying as I was walking. Guys were hooting and it was more hurtful than anything else I’ve witnessed in my life.

There Were to Security Measures, which are Important in Such Situations!
Pathetic security by Bahria Town. There was no guard, nothing; to save these girls or beat the shit of the shitty minded guys.

Additionally, Saniya wasn’t the only one who experienced this:
It is indeed heartbreaking to see how such public settings are just limited to men who get to enjoy everything and think they can get away with it because no one baits an eye.
While women like Saniya wish to enjoy these events, they are left horrified, wishing they’d never attend such events ever again.
Even while we are independent, we still are caged because of the animals out there.
