Since the #MeToo movement emerged in Pakistan, many harassment cases have come to the public forum. Among other similar cases being reported, the most controversial one was the Meesha Shafi and Ali Zafar matter. Well, recently, a famous name of Pakistan’s entertainment industry Iffat Omar has recorded her supportive asseveration in favor of Meesha Shafi.
Iffat Omar favors Meesha Shafi in the #MeToo scandal!
Last year, nationally acclaimed singer Meesha Shafi accused the ‘Teefa In Trouble’ star Ali Zafar of sexual harassment. Gradually, the issue picked up heat and both the parties took the support of the legitimate procedure landing in front of the court. This week, Pakistani actress and model Iffat Omar stood up with her friend, Meesha Shafi and recorded testimony in her favor.
Previously, Meesha Shafi’s mother actress Saba Hamid had provided her statement in support of her daughter. Recalling the time when Shafi seemed disturbed in her attitude, Iffat Omar poured her concerns over the changing stances. Last week, on Saturday, the actress testified in front of the court that Shafi was initially distressed because of the issue.
“I can never imagine that they would ever lie!”
“She [Meesha Shafi] only detailed the incident after she went public with the allegations”, Omar added. Portraying the respectable image Saba Hamid and her daughter carry within the industry, the actress displayed her worry. She stated, “I can never imagine that they would ever lie.”
Moreover, Iffat Omar recalled the time when Meesha Shafi came at her place 10 days prior to the controversial revelations. “Even upon consistently asking the reason behind her stressful attire, she [Meesha Shafi] didn’t tell me anything”, Iffat Omar said. “She only detailed the incident after she went public with the allegations” the actress added.
Supporting the #MeToo movement!
As per Omar’s testimony, Shafi in detail told her everything after she publically revealed it on her Twitter. Showing her full support for the #MeToo cause, the actress then mentioned the case of the makeup artists Leena Ghani, Maham Javaid and Humna. Moreover, Iffat Omar stated, “I fully believed in the allegations made by these women.”
Not only Meesha Shafi, but there are also several other women who hold allegations against the ‘Teefa In Trouble’ star, Iffat Omar revealed. Apparently, because of the humiliation and backlash, the makeup artists didn’t get on the social podium. Omar then stated, “It is very difficult for any woman to go public with something like this.”
“I’m not supporting Meesha just because she’s my friend!”
Being a close friend to Meesha Shafi, Iffat Omar cleared the air by stating that she’s not in court because of the relationship. “I’m not supporting Meesha just because she’s my friend”, the actress stated. Well, after Saba Hamid, Iffat Omar is the second witness in support of Meesha Shafi. For now, the court is adjourned till the 9th of November for further procession.
Last month, Lahore High Court (LHC) had dismissed Meesha Shafi’s case against Ali Zafar because of a lack of evidence. However, both the concerned parties are waiting for the final verdict from the legal authoritative.
