Is Fatima Sana Shaikh The Reason Behind Aamir Khan & Kiran Rao’s Divorce?

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and filmmaker Kiran Rao announced their divorce in a joint statement on Saturday morning. After the news broke, social media users have sparked rumors of the megastar and his Dangal costar Fatima Sana Shaikh dating.

Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh made her Bollywood debut with Dangal alongside Khan. After the success of Dangal, when Shaikh signed Thugs of Hindostan with Khan, rumors of a romance between the two started doing the rounds.

Following the success of Dangal, the rumor mills were abuzz with reports of the 3 Idiots star and Shaikh’s romance. Not only that but it was also rumored that Khan’s now-former wife Rao was quite upset with the reports.

It may be recalled that Shaikh had once addressed these rumors during an interview with Filmfare. Refuting the claims, she said, “Earlier, I used to get affected. I would feel bad. Because I have never dealt with anything of this sort at such a big level”.

“A bunch of strangers, whom I have never met, are writing things about me. They don’t even know if there is any truth to it,” she continued. “They don’t even know if there’s any truth to it. People reading it assume that I’m ‘not a good person’. You feel like telling that person, ‘Ask me, I’ll give you an answer’. It disturbs me because I don’t want people to assume wrong things. But I have learned to ignore it. Yet, there are some days when I do get affected.”

The now-former couple released a joint statement

While announcing their divorce after 15 years of marriage in a joint statement, the couple said that they will co-parent their son, Azad Rao Khan. “In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy, and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect, and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other.”

“We began a planned separation some time ago, and now feel comfortable to formalize this arrangement, of living separately yet sharing our lives the way an extended family does,” the statement read.

Khan, 56, and Rao, 47, first met on the sets of the actor’s 2001 blockbuster movie Lagaan. The two got married in 2005. They welcomed their son Azad Rao Khan in December 2011.

The Taare Zameen Par star was previously married to Reena Dutta. They have two children – son Junaid Khan and daughter Ira Khan. A while ago, his daughter Ira Khan opened up about her battle with depression and being harassed.
