On International Women’s Day, women took over all important tasks at Karachi Airport, including ground handling. This was a first of its kind.
The step was taken to understand and value the role of women in the workplace.
Women who worked there were excellent at doing difficult jobs like handling foreign flights on the ground, working at check-in desks, and leading briefings. Everyone was amazed by how professional and quick they were.
Akram Wali Muhammad, the Group Managing Director, said that Gerry’s dnata, a private ground handling business, hired and trained the women on the ground handling team.
The project brought attention to the important role women play in Pakistan’s progress; they do well in every area and show that they are just as capable as men.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed their resolve to give women more power on International Women’s Day. They also called for further refinements to policies that help women stay safe, get an education, and become financially independent.
