The Lahore High Court has ruled on a petition challenging the Aurat March, a socio-political event held each year in several Pakistani towns to commemorate International Women’s Day. Justice Shahid Karim presided over the case, finally denying citizen Azam Butt’s petition for a ban on the Aurat March.
The petition expressed worries about the Aurat March’s possible disruption to peace and order, noting objections to the placards and banners shown during the event as being incompatible with Islamic cultural values. The petitioner contended that such displays were unacceptable in Islamic society and urged the state to cease from supporting the Aurat March owing to perceived ethical problems.

Addressing the petitioner’s claims, the court deliberated on the issue before ruling the petition inadmissible and dismissed it without further proceedings. Justice Shahid Karim issued the final ruling, emphasizing the necessity of protecting free expression and recognizing women’s constitutional rights. Despite the petition’s decision, the Aurat March is organized annually in major Pakistani cities to advocate for women’s rights and gender equality.
