While the debate about ‘Black Lives Matter’ has been trending across the globe, some Pakistani celebrities are proving it with their actions. Actress Mahira Khan and Iqra Aziz claim to have always refused to endorse skin-whitening products. They say it promotes racism in society.
A famous entertainment journalist Haroon Rashid raised an important question where he asked to name any Bollywood or Pakistani celebrity who has never endorsed whitening products. Mahira immediately took her name and said that she was always against the idea of promoting such products.
Mahira is also actively involved these days in promoting some serious issues of Pakistani society.

Also, actress Iqra Aziz recently refused to endorse the whitening product as she didn’t felt right to promote racism in society. Iqra’s husband Yasir Hussain felt proud of her and lauded her act through social media.
On the other hand, actor Zara Noor Abbas recently faced severe backlash for appearing in a skin-whitening product. She too tried to defend her decision by saying that it doesn’t promote racism or killing.
“That does not promote killing. Does not promote racism. Stop making this out of context when its not the agenda. Your word doesn’t matter here. What matters is human life and equality and this is what I am here for. A face wash is killing no one,” justified Zara.
However, what Zara fails to understand is that by promoting skin-whitening products, she is feeding into the negative stereotypes about dark skin. She is reinforcing dated beauty standards like fair skin is superior and aspirational.
Bollywood’s hypocrisy
Moreover, a bunch of Indian celebrities has also spoken up about the ongoing movement in America demanding action against a police officer who murdered an innocent black man in broad daylight.
Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Disha Patani, and Sonam Kapoor have all brought this racist hate crime to their followers’ attention. They urged their followers to support black people in their fight. But, all these celebs have time and again promote skin-lightening products. People are slamming them for their hypocrisy.

Priyanka has often been criticized for her hypocrite statements. Remember when Priyanka arrogantly replied to a girl named Ayesha Malik? Ayesha Malik told her hypocrite for tweeting against Pakistan.
‘Ertugrul’ actress Esra Bilgiç also bashed Priyanka and supported Pakistan when she spoke againts peace.
