3908 views

Pakistan is a country full of surprises and there is no doubt that the women here are upping their game in every field. But when it comes to fitness, there are just a few who have taken up this field in the industry which is not something we get to see and expect every day from young Pakistani women.

Just like this, we have Maryam Nasim, who is a Pakistani born Australian athlete power-lifter. She recently got a silver medal at a power-lifting competition in Melbourne and she’s also an Australian Football league Multicultural Ambassador. Not just this but she also has her own Facebook page and Instagram where she helps people in motivating them to come towards fitness and runs her own blog called IAMFIT where she talks all about fitness motivating others.

For Maryam, it was indeed a major obstacle in life because what she loved to do (power-lifting), is considered a male-dominant sport, and with it, comes societal pressure of people judging a girl for taking up such a sport. However, she decided to break free of all these norms and let the world know that women are no less and are not bound to anything. Talking about her hardships and the difficulties she has faced, here’s what Maryam had to say:

“My Facebook friends would make fun of me and say things like, “You don’t  have to put everything about your workout on Facebook”. But my goals were different. In no time, people started recognizing me for my work.”

Despite the challenges she has faced, Maryam is more motivated than ever and is training hard to compete as a power lifter and become an athlete and she’s simply unstoppable! We wish Maryam all the best for her future and thank her for making Pakistan so proud, internationally!
