Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat was awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz on Pakistan Day, 23 March, last year. The actress recently took to Twitter to celebrate one year of receiving nation’s highest accolade.
She relives the moment by sharing the video of the iconic moment when she was awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by President Arif Alvi. She said that it felt like yesterday when the president told her that he was proud of her.
“Can’t believe that today it’s been a year from this life-changing moment when I was bestowed with the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, the Medal of Excellence. It really seems like yesterday. The words of the President saying Proud of you Beta still ring in my head,” she wrote.

She received the award for her efforts in Pakistan’s film industry. She dedicated her award to all the girls in the country who have a dream.
Mehwish received backlash for her Tamgha-e-Imtiaz
Tamgha-e-Imtiaz literally means a medal of excellence. It is the fourth-highest award in the civilian sector. Any celebrity who receives this award naturally is recognized as a class apart, someone who has proved his/her mettle in their respective field. It is obviously a great honor for any celebrity to be given this award.
However, Mehwish also faced severe backlash when she was awarded the prestigious award. Mahira Khan along with many other celebrities supported Mehwish. There were many celebrities who thought that Mehwish was being targeted because she was a female.
Some even questioned her morality and why she only deserved such highest accolades when there are far better actors in the industry. Few comments were nasty and even below the belt.
Moreover, replying to all the negativity, Mehwish said in an interview she just wants everyone to accept the fact and move on! She also lashes out at people who called her with different names and titles.
“There were some people who asked what have I done for the country and how many wars have I fought. They didn’t realize that I am an artiste and I got the civil award for my category,” she said.
“People don’t realize that the work we do is very difficult. They just look at the final product which looks very glamorous,” She said. She also added that people don’t know that a lot of hard work goes into acting. “I have been very lucky that my work got noticed.”
Still, the actress has been fighting her way to the heart of people. People are still criticizing her and questioning the credibility of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.
