The event used the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by the UN, to develop ideas for social enterprise projects. The event organized by the Danish NGO Crossing Borders, Malmö Sustainability Center and Malmö University, was held from 15th – 19th October 2017 in Malmö, Sweden.

Soonh Rustamani, from Karachi, is one of the two winners of the competition. Soonh, along with her Japanese partner Konomi Mizumoto, who study at Krogerup Højskole in Denmark, came up with the idea of promoting the usage of sustainable solar energy for cooking purposes in the rural villages of Sindh, where natural gas is used for cooking purposes. The purpose of this idea is to scrap the concept of burning wood and coal which contributes to air pollution, deforestation and health hazards.

The project was selected by the panel of judges as one of the two best ideas, out of eight projects presented by youth from more than 15 different nationalities which includes India, Maldives, Senegal, South Korea, Finland, Japan, Togo, Uganda, Spain, Kenya, Switzerland, Greece, Iraq, Dominican Republic and Lebanon.

With an ambition to work for the betterment of Pakistan, Soonh is ready to start her venture.
