So what’s the obsession with ‘gora rang’ nowadays? I was watching Jago Pakistan Jago and precisely felt really weird after watching it. I thought it was only me who felt quite uncomfortable after watching it. The host and the two guests and so-called makeup experts gave the contestants a ‘challenge’ to apply dark foundation on fair skinned models.

This essentially depicted their mentality of how it’s a challenge to do makeup on dark-skinned people. Furthermore, they used disrespectful words like makarani, and negro to specify the dark skin tone. No one, I repeat, no one has the right to use these words for anyone.

Moreover, the hosts were really rude to the contestants, precisely doubting their make-up abilities and also asked them if they even know how to apply foundation. Their attitude towards the participants demonstrated how rude they were being.

Ambar Khan abusing beauticians during live show

Live session gone horribly wrong, I didn’t like how she humiliated the local beautician at all. Really bad

So disrespectful!

If they invite contestants to their show, they should know how to respect them or should decide whether to invite them or not. However, this show was really ridiculous and shouldn’t have aired. It was actually very uncomfortable to watch it; even if they wanted to do this ‘challenge’, they should’ve called different models who were of the skin tone, rather than calling fair-skinned models and applying dark foundation on them.

I just want to tell one thing that no matter who you are, no matter what your skin tone is, you are you and I think that is incredible. The hosts should apologize immediately as this show was nothing but ludicrous. The host should bring on genuine content to her show instead of teaching people how to do makeup and what to do to get fair skin.

As a society, we can never go towards betterment if we keep on obsessing over ‘gora rang.’ Instead, we should precisely accept the people for who they are and what they do rather than appreciating their looks. For anyone who is reading this, you are beautiful because of who you are!
