You might have come across stories where people, well especially Muslims have usually have been asked to step aside while traveling for special screenings. As much as we all have been through one of these situations, we all are more or less, used to these security checks. However, recently, a Muslim woman was asked to step aside for extra screening and you cannot even imagine what happened next.

Zainab Merchant, a graduate student at Harvard University and the founder and editor of the website-Zainab Rights, was traveling from Boston to Washington, DC. According to sources, the agents patted her groin area asking for a ‘deeper look’.

Zainab claims that she was pulled aside by the agents and in a private room, she was patted down and forced to remove her underwear and show her bloody menstrual pad to the TSA- Transportation Security Administration. After the screening when Zainab asked the agents for their bagde Id numbers and names, they covered them and left the room.

According to Zainab, she was concerned with the private screening process and asked for witnesses, to which the agents stated that if she wouldn’t comply, they would call in the state troopers. On the other hand, she wasn’t even allowed to call in her lawyer.

Later, Zainab filed a complaint and stated how she has been a victim to the extensive humiliating and unnecessary searching process while traveling over the last two years. Moreover, she mentioned that the questions comprised of religious beliefs, ISIS affiliations or on her blogs that criticized the US Government.

According to the sources, Zainab has been placed on the Department of Homeland Security watch list, which was neither denied or confirmed by the TSA.

Zainab says that she will continue to fight until and unless she gets answers,

“I’m not going to stop fighting for my rights. This is affecting us on a daily basis now. I’m not going to stop. I’m not going to give up, no matter what happens,”

“I just want them to give us answers as to why this is happening and what I can do to rectify it, because I haven’t done anything wrong.”

This is really sad. Imagine what she goes through, that too on daily basis. We are speechless. We stand with you Zainab because you don’t deserve this. As a matter of fact, nobody does. Where is our humanity? Where do we stand as humans? Is this who we all are? Judging each other on the basis of religion, race or sex? Imagine, there might be hundreds of untold stories that take place around the world and Zainab’s story is just one of them.

We are simply heartbroken.
