The comedy legend Umer Sharif gave several years of his life to one of the toughest craft and did an amazing job at it. His career had humble beginnings from stage shows that are still to this day are shown on various channels bringing back the old-school comedy sketches with classic acting and perfect deliverance of punch-lines.
Umer Sharif’s performances have been top-notch and downright hilarious. He even starred in some of the best comedy shows like Bakra Qistoon Pay and Buddha Ghar Pe Hai. However, the king of the comedy realm went on a long hiatus due to his illness; mainly having to do with a certain pain in his legs which was under treatment.
Umer Sharif was recently spotted in public with his wife; he looked frail and had difficulty walking.
Sadly, social media has become the dwelling place for the trolls who would ruthlessly make everything a subject for their entertainment. Umer Sharif was targetted for his unsteady gait and was declared ‘intoxicated’ by many. Some resorted to making petty meme jokes about his way of walking; either way, it was disrespectful and rude.

Umer Sharif has been quite hushed about his illness and never openly spoke about it. However, after this disappointing spectacle, his wife Zareen Sharif lashed out at the trolls and opened up about his illness, on Instagram.
Mrs. Umer gave a befitting reply to the disrespectful trolls.
Zareen showed gratitude for the ones who wished her husband a speedy recovery but expressed deep sorrow and disappointment towards those who chose to ridicule someone who is a living legend. Moreover, these trolls jumped on disgusting conclusions without having complete knowledge. Truly, this is a sorry state of some of the Pakistanis that don’t have the ability to extend basic decency.
Zareen informed about the reason behind his unusual gait, which is the dislocation of one of the spinal disc that is causing him pain and trouble to walk. Furthermore, she stated that he is undergoing physiotherapy and will recover soon.

However, Zareen left an important message for the keyboard-comedians, “He is the man that made you laugh for 40 years and to this day, is copied by several comedians not just from Pakistan but from India as well. But, you chose to speak ill of him.”
One can feel the pain and sadness behind her words. Umer Sharif is the legend that Pakistan was gifted with and there hasn’t been a comedian who can come up to his par, excellence, and charisma. He is a mentor, an inspiration and worthy of being celebrated; which he was, as he is the recipient of one of the highest honor- Tamgah-e-Imtiaz.
May he recover soon and continue to grace us with his humor. Pakistan is truly indebted to him!
