Tajikistan’s parliament has approved a bill banning the hijab and “alien garments,” specifically targeting Islamic clothing. The bill also restricts children from celebrating Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, known as idgardak, where kids visit homes to greet people.

Violations can result in hefty fines, with penalties ranging from 7,920 somonis for individuals to 57,600 somonis for officials. This move follows years of unofficial bans on Islamic clothing and bushy beards in the country.
