2526 views

Offering prayers is the second most important pillar of Islam. Muslims fast for a month, they perform Hajj once in a lifetime and they have to pay Zakat once in a year but Namaz, Salah is obligatory for every Muslim, five times a day. In different circumstances, a Muslim can be exempt from fasting, performing Hajj and Zakat but Almighty Allah didn’t exclude anyone from praying even if the one is on a battlefield!

As Allah says in the Quran that,

Maintain with care the [obligatory] prayers and [in particular] the middle prayer and stand before Allah, devoutly obedient. And if you fear [an enemy, then pray] on foot or riding. But when you are secure, then remember Allah [in prayer], as He has taught you that which you did not [previously] know – Surah Baqra, verse 238-239

It is narrated by Abu Al-Mahh [RA]: We were with Buraida in a battle on a cloudy day and he said, “Offer the `Asr prayer early as the Prophet said, “Whoever leaves the `Asr prayer, all his (good) deeds will be annulled.” – Sahih al-Bukhari Book 9, Hadith 30

Another Hadith says that,

On the night journey (Shabe Mairaj) of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), two angels showed him different people who were being tormented in different ways. The ones who missed there daily prayers were punished by smashing a rock on their head.

I said to them, ‘I have seen many wonders tonight. What does all that mean which I have seen?’ They replied, ‘We will inform you: As for the first man you came upon, whose head was being smashed with the rock, he is the symbol of the one who studies the Qur’an and then neither recites it nor acts on its orders, and sleeps, neglecting the enjoined prayers. – Riyad Us Saliheen Book 18 Hadith 36

May Allah grant us Hidayat and makes us from those who never miss their obligatory prayers, Ameen!
