The word “WOMAN” has different meanings for different people. Pakistan, the 4th worst country in the world for a woman to live, has another meaning for it. Unfortunately, the 90% of the women of Pakistan face sexual harassment. I am one of the thousands of that woman who has faced it multiple times but I am also one of that woman who learned to fight against it.

A few days ago, I and my 3 other friends faced such a situation. We were sitting in a canteen of one of the most prestigious university of Pakistan (University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore). We were having a good time when suddenly an unknown guy came and sat on the empty chair beside me without permission.

We were shocked at first. He had a mischievous smile on his face. He suddenly showed a picture of a girl on his mobile to my friend who was sitting very close to me and then said to her, “You know she resembles you very much and I like her very very much…”. The third girlfriend of us did not let him complete and went away from there with an annoying expression.

My friend, whom he has shown the picture of the girl, is very shy and of a soft nature. We both got up and just moved from the table when suddenly the guy friend of us said to him in a mild tone, “Dude just suppose you are sitting with your sister and then someone comes and sits with her without permission and start talking to him like this”. He had just said it when the man starts to say, “Shut up. I am not talking to you. I am talking to her you just shut up”.

That was enough for me. I said that man in a loud tone, “Just go to your mother and sister” and then just went away. That was enough for him. Yes, that was enough for the guy who was harassing a girl a few minutes ago. I and my friends just reached the door of that canteen when that man start fighting our guy friend who was at the back of us. He also grabbed his collar and his other 4 friends also came to help him.

I stepped forward and got my friend free with the help of my clipboard and told them not to come near to him. I went a little away from the canteen when I saw that man and his friends not letting my guy friend to go and my friend arguing with them. Many screams of us asking our friend to go away from that barbarians continues. Then at the end we all friends went away from there.

But some things still remained. Afterwards, my friend told me that man was demanding my apology and saying that he would not let us go until I apologize to him. Yes, my apology. Even when I had not even abused him. That man was a Pathan but not the noble one. He tried to harass a girl and his ego was hurt when I only mentioned his sister. He got furious on the mentioning of his sister while he was misbehaving with the sister of someone else.

One may even say that he misbehaved with her because she might not had dressed properly but in actual she was very a very decent dress and a duppatta on her head.

This is just a one story, there are millions of these stories. Many women were not much protected in our country and the major reason of it is the orthodox thinking of people. Many men are just good and protected brothers for their own sister and a harasser for other’s sisters. If we dont fight against a harasser he will think that women are coward and he has freedom to do anything with her.
