Living in Pakistan, you really don’t know what are you going to experience the next moment. Oh yes, this goes out to the girls especially when they travel alone. Cases of harassment have now become a very common thing and the ‘men’ do it shamelessly. More and more women are now raising awareness by sharing their stories on social media, however, no strict action has been taken against such incidents.

Not just harassment, but some cases have led to actual ‘threats’. A girl recently shared her story of how she was harassed and threatened as she was traveling to Swat from Lahore in a Daewoo bus. She said that the guy was making her video and when she called him out for making her video, he started shouting that he’ll settle the matter himself because he felt she ruined his ‘dignity’ in front of so many people. WOW. Really?? His threat scared the girl as she was traveling alone and that is when she shared the story asking for help as the driver and the hostess on duty didn’t do anything to help her.

Upon asking him for his phone, so the could be deleted, he refused to do so and instead, asked the girl to apologize for ruining his ‘dignity’.

Here’s what she said:

A guy travelling in Daewoo at 3.45pm from Lahore to Swat, (stopping in between at Rawalpindi) threatened to take revenge from me when i called him out for making my video. I was extremely scared and didn’t know how to confront him but when i talked to my friends, they encouraged me to check his cell phone. He deleted the video or perhaps hid it, when i checked his mobile. He was shouting in the bus and publicly threatening to settle it himself because i insulted him and it was against his ‘ghairat’. I started shaking because i was alone and the driver and hostess did nothing to help. I wanted to call the police but the daewoo staff advised me not to since it would only delay the arrival of the bus. I have been threatened and shouted at and i am scared that i am not in the best frame of mind to make logical decisions when the administration should be doing it for me. I asked them to take his mobile and retrieve the deleted data but so far he has refused from submitting his mobile and instead insisted that i apologise to him. When we travel we expect travel companies to ensure our safety yet here i am crying and scared for my life and the worst part is that the administration doesn’t give a damn. I’m still on the bus with this man who claims that i have robbed him of his ‘ghairat’ and he will be taking revenge from me at any moment.

However, upon reaching to the terminal and talking to the management, the matter was taken care of. Jannat updated everyone that she has reached, safely. The question is, what gave the man the right to threaten her when he was one who was wrong in the first place? Is it only a man’s ‘ghairat’ that is always ruined? What actions shall be taken against such men?

To all the girls out there, let your voices be heard. If you’re being harassed, you have the right to expose that person. Don’t be scared. Know that you’re brave enough to tell them that they are wrong and teach them a lesson they’ll never forget their whole life.
