Mehwish Hayyat – who doesn’t know this gorgeous face? Mehwish is a versatile actress and singer who even made her ap in Coke Studio. Her good works include Shehr e Dil k Darwazay, which is an old drama serial and from her recent performance in TV includes Dil Lagi. Mehwish has worked in Pakistani movies as well. She was bold and daring enough to do actin the first item song in Pakistan in the movie “Na Maloom Afraad”. After that, she did a movie with Humayun Saeed called “Punjab Nahi Jaoungi”.

Mehwish was invited by Pakistan High Commission to London Queen Marry University last week and she gave speech to the students in which she mentioned how she was scared for the item song that she might make her lose her original fan base.

Mehwish said:

“Your fans, especially women, emotionally connect with you. Because they see themselves in you as you play the household roles. And they want you to continue doing that and nothing more. But in 2011 I chose to do exact opposite of that, I did the first item song on the big screen.”

Mehwish talked solely about women empowerment. She talked about her struggles as an actress, women and a daughter of a proud mother. When she took risks that were society averse, she was aware that it might put her television career at stake. Mehwish cleared that she’s advocating equality in terms of employment and opportunity as it has been her own struggle.

A pleasure to be in London to address students at the prestigious Queen Mary's University on women's empowerment and my own journey in the industry. Even bigger privilege to be here in the week that you are celebrating the 100th anniversary of women being granted the vote in UK. Thanking the Pakistan High Commission in London and the Queen Mary Pakistan Society for facilitating me. "So if a woman has to chase her dreams, she has to step into this man’s world, play by the set rules, follow the decorum of patriarchal values, and yet face adversity, ridicule, objectification, pay gap, and possibly sexual harassment, to make it big in life." #MehwishHayat #Queenmaryuniversity #inconversationwithMehwishHayat #london #Womenempowerment #metoo #timesup

She dedicated her success to her mother while she explains her mother was there for her in every step and stood by her. She mentions proudly in her speech about Asma Jahangir and her bravery, and how Pakistan has recently lost one of the bravest women. Mehwish said that from the land she belongs to, women like Asma are a rare breed who represented the bleeding heart liberals; who believed and fought for the more peaceful world. Before her was Fatima Jinnah and Benazir Bhutto. She didn’t forget to mention Malala and her stubborn stance on standing up for the right to education.
