Living in a male dominant society where the birth of a male child is considered a blessing whereas the birth of a female child is ought to be a curse. Or as they say, a girl is a “waste of money, and a waste of space”; she is not the “wanted” child in this country. It’s such a pity that the face of a male child depicts him being next in line for the throne of his father and for the girl, it’s always about her marriage, her dowry etc. It’s just a perception that has made home in our minds that only a guy can do everything because women are weak.

So, for all those people who still have that mentality, this one really goes out for you. You must have heard the name of Sana Mir. If you haven’t, then here is a glimpse of who she is. She is the captain of Pakistan’s national women’s cricket team and a daughter that has made everyone proud of being a Pakistani.

Our women’s cricket team has just returned home from the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 after facing a loss and like every other time, even this time, they didn’t receive any welcome, any respect and the worst-case scenario – they weren’t even given the transport. Plus, the people who on the loss of man’s cricket team are like “Tum jeeto ya haaro, hamien tum say piyaar hai” bashed the women’s cricket team like anything.

To give a shut-up call to all the haters Ms. Mir came up with the best reply and posted an “An Open Letter from Sana Mir” on her official Facebook page, in which she mentioned that:

“There is no shame in losing; there is only shame in not giving your 100%.” And later, she added that “I am not a perfect captain nor I have claimed it anywhere or we are the perfect team”.

She kept on highlighting her issues with the coach that she wants Diana Baig to play which was a major disagreement between them, to which the coach started maligning the senior players who have been giving confidence and guidance to youngsters for so long. Ms. Mir also talked about why she chose Facebook over other mediums and the reason behind revealing this was the confidential report by the coach and comments by GM Women Wing and Chairman PCB, who were making headlines which compelled her to post a letter. Having said that, she mentioned that it’s miserable for us to have not given the same amount of support that we always give to our men’s team.

Our women’s team is a group of 11 warriors who have reached great heights, have faced immense lows and have played without even the proper facilities, and still won the T20 series against Bangladesh in 2015. Still, a lot could have and still be done all that we would have to do is start looking at them with the same way as our men’s team and give them the facilities they require that would be the cherry on the top.”

“Own our women and see how they give you the chance to paint the town green with the brightest smiles. I am not a perfect captain nor have I claimed it anywhere or we are the perfect team.”
