Through the rise of social media, a lot of people are now aware of harassments and how to counteract them. Almost everybody who is present on social media has at least once seen a campaign against harassment and everything. But what we don’t realize is there is not just one type of harassment.

The type of harassment that most people focus on is undoubtedly super important as well i.e. sexual harassment. But this doesn’t mean we should not learn and let ourselves be aware of the other types. These types include things that happen to most of us in our daily lives and because we get so used to them, we fail to identify them as harassment. So I, my friend, am here to tell you that if the following things are happening to you, then you must identify them and take some action against it.

1. Personal Harassment

This is informally known as ‘bullying’. Bullying has caused some majors setbacks throughout the years and those who suffer from it sometimes take extreme measures like committing suicide. This kind of harassment includes making fun of appearance and other personal traits. This leads to people feeling super insecure about themselves as well which can cause quite some negative effects.

2. Stalking

This cannot be avoided entirely by the one who is getting stalked but all we know is that it is super inappropriate and must be addressed at all grounds. If someone is constantly bothering you with unlimited text messages and voice mails, approaching you for your personal information (for no relevant reason), then you should be able to identify it as harassment.

3. Racial Harassment

Although a good percentage of the world’s population has been enlightened by this issue, and much of us are aware of this type, it is sad to see that it still exists in many parts of the world and people are actually suffering from it just on the grounds of their skin color. Inappropriate inquiries about someone’s race or ethnic background or sending hints of intimidation classify as some of the examples of racial harassment.

4. Workplace Harassment

This is a very wide term and we know many people go through this. Workplace harassment does not only mean sexual but also personal harassment and bullying at workplaces/offices. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission defines harassment as unwelcome verbal or physical behavior that is based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), gender/gender identity, nationality, age (40 or older), physical or mental disability or genetic information.

There is much more information available about workplace harassment on the internet that you should definitely go through for awareness as it has become essential for everyone now to protect themselves from such issues.

5. Harassment on grounds of age

Yes, mates! This is also known as harassment, and yes it does exist. Have you ever got a negative/inappropriate remark based on your age that you thought was super offensive but decided to shut up just because it was a ‘normal’ desi thing? Well, guess what, it’s NOT okay. In fact, it classifies as harassment and should not be taken lightly.

The sad part is that many examples that are mentioned throughout this article are very commonly seen around us nowadays. In fact, many of them are experienced by us, too, for the most part. But because of society not accepting them as harassment, rather taken as some very normal things to happen, we ought to keep our mouth shut and brush everything under the rug.

What is even worse is that some of us do not even identify them as harassment just because we’re taught that these things are completely normal to experience and should not be taken as an offense. So, here were some of the types. We hope this article helped you in some way.
