Obesity is one of the major problems of a common man these days. For losing weight instantly, people are now looking for shortcuts which are harmful obviously. Dieting for losing weight can’t be a bad thing if we do it with adopting a healthy lifestyle which has great physical and psychological benefits.

A man used to eat much, but when he embraced Islam, he started eating less. That was mentioned to the Prophet (PBUH) who then said, “A believer eats in one intestine (is satisfied with a little food) and a Kafir eats in seven intestines (eats much) “ – Sahih al-Bukhari, book 70, hadith 25

Here a few healthy tips Holy Prophet (PBUH) told in different hadiths which can help you to lose weight.

1. Fasting

Ramadan is the month in which we tune up our physical and spiritual health. If we simply take away the processed food and fried items from our diet during Ramadan, we can be guaranteed weight loss. Fortunately, keeping fast isn’t limited to Ramadan only, you can keep fast in other days as well with a healthy diet to lose the weight.

2. Avoid Eating Excess Food

Allah states in Holy Quran that, And eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess” – (Sura Al-Ara’af, verse 31)

Miqdam bin Madikarib said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say: ‘A human being fills no worse vessel than his stomach. It is sufficient for a human being to eat a few mouthfuls to keep his spine straight. But if he must (fill it), then one-third of food, one third for drink and one third for air” – Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol. 4, Book 29, Hadith 3349

3. Drink Water On Empty Stomach

We don’t find any hadith regarding drinking water on an empty stomach but Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said once to complete the fast with water.

Anas bin Malik narrated that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “Whoever has dried dates, then let him break the fast with that, and whoever does not then let him break the fast with water, for indeed water is purifying” – Jami at-Tirmidhi 694, Book 8, Hadith 13

But keep in mind the right way of drinking water!

Ibn ‘Abbas (RA) reported that Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Do not drink in one gulp like a camel, but in two or three (gulps). Mention the Name of Allah (i.e., say Bismillah) when you start drinking and praise Him (i.e., say Al-hamdu lillah) after you have finished (drinking)” – Al Tirmidhi, Book 3, Hadith 31

4. Do Some Exercise Daily

For losing weight, some exercise is a must thing. According to the companions of Holy Prophet (PBUH), he used to walk faster than others.

He (PBUH) said once, “Any action without the remembrance of God is either a diversion or heedlessness excepting four acts: Walking from target to target [during archery practice], training a horse, playing with one’s family, and learning to swim” – (Reported by Tabrani)

5. Never Skip Your Breakfast

We usually skip breakfast and eat more than enough food in lunch which obviously affects your health. Holy Prophet (PBUH) recommended in numerous hadiths to take breakfast as it has blessings in it.

Anas (RA) narrated that Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “Eat the suhur (pre-dawn meal), for there are blessings in this meal” – Bulug Al Maram Book 5, Hadith 681

6. Consistency Is The Key

Consistency in losing weight is a must thing. If you keep going with the healthy diet, you’ll lose the weight as consistency is the key to success!

Narrated by Bibi Aisha (RA) Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said, “Do good deeds properly, sincerely and moderately and know that your deeds will not make you enter Paradise and that the most beloved deed to Allah is the most regular and constant even if it were little.” – Sahih al-Bukhari 6464, Book 81, Hadith 53
