So, we live in an era where people have throbbing double standards. That too about almost everything. Some people go all pro with women who do makeup! But at the same time, there are people who want women to be comfortable in their own skin. There are boys who like to groom themselves up, so they are called “girly” and then there are boys that wear what’s comfortable and are called untidy. Sometimes, people can be harsh and belittle people for their choices.

This woman shared her story with her Twitter family and here’s what had to say:

She said that she was called  “Maasi” a term used in Pakistan for someone who is not-so-fashionable. She was called Maasi for her choice of wearing a dupatta.

Here’s how she handled the ones who mocked her!

“I used to wear a dupatta over my head, once upon a time. I was at NED University Karachi where I was delivering an Urdu speech when, before I could even start, young men started shouting “MAASI MAASI MAASI!” I waited for them to quiet down & began my speech. I won first prize. I still felt unhappy about being heckled though grinned at the boys who walked by sheepishly and saw a giant golden trophy in my hands. I had a mentor back in the day to whom I would often speak to abt stuff. I told her how people called me ‘Maasi!’ as an insult. She smiled and said, ‘Maasi means ‘maa jesi’. What’s insulting about it?’ So here’s to all the people who think calling a woman ‘aunty’/‘maasi’ is an insult. Being an aunty isn’t an insult because that is who I am.”

Mahwish is now a famous YouTuber and a true bad-ass
