This Guy has a Cracking Response to All Those Who Consider “Periods” a Taboo

1215 views

Recently, the internet was taken ablaze by the taboo that is attached to periods. People started talking about it as openly as they can for the very reason that something so normal should not be taken as a taboo. The degree to which menstruation and things related to it are kept shush is highly avoided which is not doing any good to anyone. In any normal social settings worldwide, these topics, if brought forward for discussion, would not be encouraged. It is really important for people to know that menstruation is as natural as rain or wind.

This guy from Bangladesh named Mahmudul Amin shared his story of how he went to buy sanitary napkins a month ago. When he asked the shopkeeper for a packet of sanitary napkins, he awkwardly stared at him and wrapped a packet in a dark paper as if not to show anyone what Amin is carrying. But as soon as he came out of the shop, he threw the dark paper wrapped around the napkins and carried the packet home.

Mahmud wrote in his Facebook post:

Couple of months ago, I visited a pharmacy to get sanitary napkins. The shopkeeper, with a judgmental stare on his face wrapped them in an opaque carry-bag as if it was an smuggled item.
I threw the bag away and walked off holding them barehanded.

This incident left me astonished and feel pity for him instead.

I am a husband and a brother to two younger sisters.
I find it an absolute necessity for them to feel free and openly discuss with me about any menstrual trouble they are going through.

Menstruation is not a forbidden act or taboo,
and none should be disgusted about it.

Yes, that’s a pad in my hand and that’s not something to be ashamed about. It’s natural! PERIOD.

Mahmud said in his Facebook post that he’s a husband and a brother of two sisters and he feels it’s necessary to be open about it, discussing the problem they might be facing. Following the bandwagon, many other campaigns started this month. One of the campaigns had women boycotting the use of branded sanitary napkins. The reason for boycotting the branded napkins was that many women in rural areas of the sub-continent cannot afford these brands and these napkins are used from plastic which creates tons of pollution.

Big brands which manufacture these pads only monopolize the products which actually limit its reach. These pads are only used by women who can afford the set price of these products by the big giants that manufacture it. The purpose of this campaign is to encourage women to use a cloth napkin or reusable cloth that only creates less pollution. It is such a disgrace that people after all these efforts still are not accepting menstruation as a very natural process.
