This Woman Raises a Valid Point on Child Labor and How People Choose to Ignore it

According to a research which was conducted some years back, it stated that there are at least 3 crore kids who have never attended school. This is a big number as all these kids are deprived of the basic human right which needs to be fulfilled at any cost. But what’s the hurdle? The problem is that in Pakistan, the government and NGOs fail to provide a large number of kids with free education; and in a country where people with all the proud violation, don’t pay the labors even with a minimum wage rate.

It is so hard to earn food one time, how will these kids ever get any amount of education?! So, Kanwal Ahmed, founder of Soul Sisters Pakistan wrote on Facebook about “girl child labor”. She said things like how to write-off our guilt when it comes to the housemaid and say that at least they are earning or we teach them after they get done with work! AH!

Here’s Kanwal’s meaningful rant which made so much sense!

“I have a question.

Would you be okay with your own child in this position, at someone else’s house? Earning below minimum wage? Eating leftovers? Occasionally getting good food, as a big ehsaan? Often getting scolded for “missing a spot”? In many, many cases being physically abused or violated if not by the bosses, definitely by other servants in the vicinity?

Would YOU be okay with all of that?

*Audience gasps: Allah NA KARAY!*

What if it was justified with:

“At least bhookay marnay se toh behtar hai ke kisi kaam pe lag gai.”

“We give her fresh food every day. Yeh issay apnay ghar pe kabhi nai milay ga. Aur jab thori bari hogi toh salary bhi bhara dain ge.”

“Hum log toh bohot behtar hain dusron se. Jab ghar ka kaam karlaiti hai toh mein khud beth ke alif bay parha daiti hoon. Ab toh yeh raashan ki list bhi thora bohot khud parh laiti hai.”

What if the reason for you sending your child to work was because your “baji” refused to pay you even the bare minimum wage as per Pakistani law and you couldn’t make ends meet?

What if the reason you had to send your child to work was because YOU too weren’t able to get an education since you too were stuck in the same vicious cycle 10 years ago?

What if you wanted your daughter to only have school to worry about and not somone else’s kids’ diapers?

What if you cried yourself to sleep at night while watching your 13 year old fall asleep without dinner out of exhaustion after scrubbing someone else’s kitchen floors?

What if you cursed yourself for never being able to take her out of this cycle of child labor and abuse only to be pompously told off, the next morning when narrating your sorrows, by your baji:

“Tsk Shakila, tum log bhi baray nashukray hotay ho. Khuda ka khauf karlo thora. Tumhari beti ko itni achi naukri dilwai hai. Doh waqt ka khana aur izzat wala kaam toh hai na. Chalo jao Alina ka lunch box le ke ao. School ko dair ho jai gi warna.”

Every child deserves to go to school, damn it. It’s 2018 for crying out loud and a Facebook post shouldn’t have to remind you of that. Nothing, nothing, NOTHING justifies someone else’s precious kid, washing your ganda toilet.

#SayNoToChildLabor”

She also said that if anyone wants to break this family cycle of the family working as housemaid from generations after generations, it could only be possible through education.

Education is the only way to break this cycle!

I have a question.Would you be okay with your own child in this position, at someone else's house? Earning below…

It’s high time that people need to look into this matter, and if not the government, there are tons of NGO’s that could work on this cause and bring free education to be reachable enough for every kid! Make this happen so we could change and never let any human stay uneducated!
