One of the pages shared Malala Yousaf Zai’s picture with Priyanka Chopra; with a weird caption. I was going through the comments merely to see what the majority thinks, saw a few comments with wrong spellings and poor sentence structure, but still courageous enough to mock Malala (I know English isn’t our native language).

After a few comments, I replied to one of those comments in a sarcastic tone. Now, this man, Abubakar Burhan, out of nowhere used my profile content about Balochistan to call me a FAT UGLY BITCH. Further, he took a snapshot of my profile picture without my consent and used it in his comments again to mock me on my looks and find a husband or boyfriend before this world comes to an end.

Here we go…

More girls jumped in…

Girl power!

The guy kept on going…

References to Quranic Ayahs were given…

Totally unacceptable!

 Profanity…

What even??

This guy went a little too far

Disgusting…

What was he high on?

I have reported him on Facebook as well to the admin of the page. The admin was cooperative and removed my pictures. Upon further inquiry, I came across his abusive language and mocking on every girl’s comment (mind it only on girl’s comments) who stood up for Malala. Indeed this forum gives him the right to express his views as well as all of us, but there were many males that were seen supporting Malala – the question is, why did he choose to target the girls, only? Why did he use our pictures? Why not the pictures of guys? You would see him referring verses of Quran along with the picture of a girl without her permission!!!

This is the reason girls are afraid of expressing their views on social media. Men like Abubakar Burhan not only abuse us but make sure to make us feel insecure about writing our views any further. I am an individual being who supports Malala. You can disagree with me but bashing me for having my opinion is no way a gentleman’s approach. The very Quran which teaches him to wear proper clothes couldn’t teach him to respect a female. My looks are created by the same God whose verses he has been quoting. An irony of today’s generation is that they know half the knowledge and that’s more dangerous than being illiterate.
