I am the 90’s kid who grew up watching PTV and don’t regret it and also the fact that my father did not allow dish TV in the house back in the days.

When kids in my school were watching Heena and Boogie-Woogie, I felt no shame in watching Ainak Wala Jin and PTV dramas and even paanch bajay wali angraizi khabrain!! Huma Meer Shah used to be the newsreader and it was awesome.

Then, as we moved to another house, I stepped into my teen years, we got Cable TV in our house. Yes, you read that right. We jumped straight from PTV to a whole wide variety of channels and the world was beautiful. But not so much as it started becoming really ugly with the introduction of parosi mulk’s saas-bahu dramas in our lives and we were facing Kumkum, Prerna Mom and Tulsi and Mr. Bajaj and there 800 crore rupees sitting under their pillows.

Then our own channels started popping up. Indus TV, ARY, and Geo. We showed our loyalty there. And then a day came when Pakistanis were given a real treat in the form of morning shows. And here is where my story takes a twist. After all these years of watching these crappy shows in the morning with ill-mannered hosts, weird guests, already married celebs getting remarried live in the mornings was a bit too much to digest.

A week ago, I woke up, switched on my TV and found PTV in the long list of channels. And you know that feeling when you return to your old neighborhood…that’s what it was. It was the same Tilawat-e-Quran-e-Pak transmission, same classic National Anthem and as the morning show airs, who do I see on my TV? TAUSEEQ HAIDER! Yes, the same guy who used to be on the morning transmission years ago when I was getting ready for school.

And he has got the same charming swag, full of energy and the way he treats his guests with so much respect. And not only that, the guests are random people who are actually doing something good and inspirational. Yes, there are celebs, but only one celebrity on selected days and lots of regular people like you and me with their awesome stories. Now, this is a guy who has a great experience, knows how to interact with chosen words, rather than just saying whatever pops up in his mouth.

Just yesterday, I was unfortunate enough to find Nida Yasir on ARY, using slangs on live TV. Not only that, don’t these women do any homework? The guest in the show was a young woman representing some fashion brand and Nida exclaims, “Oh main samjhi koi buddhi hogi” followed by “acha ye dress hum dopeher k lunch aur raat ki dinner pe pehen saktay hain?” Who is monitoring these ladies with no education in mass communication, sitting on live shows every morning looking like a runaway bride with no sense at all?

Its been a week, I am watching PTV, every morning and I do NOT regret it. These ladies need to learn from this man, the art of interaction!! P.S: For all the 90’s babies like me, sadly the cartoons are not there!!
