Why has feminism become a taboo? A state of mind, a choice, a difference of opinion maybe, but why is it a taboo. After witnessing so much negativity towards a concept which is more a state of mind rather than a concrete definition. I want to tell you why I need feminism.

Why I need to be a feminist. It’s hope, hope gives me strength, hope is what drives feminism in the first place. Hope in there is a world where women won’t have to live in fear. Look at how far we’ve come and watched how far we will go. It was hope that got us here. It helps me believe in myself, watching thousands of women across the world telling me telling each other that there is nothing you can not achieve, there is nothing in this world you cant do, makes my little mind light up with possibilities, blurring out the boundaries and restrictions.

It gives you strength to speak up about what’s wrong. Had I been alone, had I thought there was nobody that would agree with my point of view, I would have kept my mouth shut. But knowing I’m not alone, gives me the courage to speak. It has never been about hate. At least for me. It is simply a connection to my own gender. It’s a fight towards being treated fairly, to stop the use of gender, to influence, or excel or oppress. There’s no right or no wrong. I get to align myself according to what I believe in. Feminism means thinking, the concept of thinking for yourself.

Deciding what is right and what is wrong. Feminism is not perfect, there are people that derive their own definition and their own conclusions that you might not agree to… But be broad-minded enough to at least trying to understand what it might mean to someone before you judge them. For me, It means im not alone, in a decade’s old fight in making my gender stronger, braver, capable of speaking up, speaking for itself.

I’m part of something larger and more meaningful than myself. And I owe it, to myself and to every woman out there who was told she is not good enough, every woman who was too afraid to sleep at night, every woman that was never given the power to make her own decisions herself, to be a feminist.
