I am an aspiring writer and I started writing a novel and when it reached the climax, like every other person, I started to contact publishers. Recently, I came across this editor/publisher from a very renowned publication. I wrote a book proposal, sent it to her and she flatly denied it within seconds by saying that they don’t accept submissions by “young adults” without even reading the name that I highlighted in the first line.

But it was absolutely fine until I found out that such things do happen. But, after that, in return to her reply, I wrote “Jazak Allah”, I wrote that because she took out the time to reply me…and to me, it was a big thing. But, to my “thanks”, she mocked the language by saying such a cruel, racist thing that Arabised Pakistanis are a like a pet-peeve to her. I literally wante to reply her bluntly as she’d gushed out the hatred, but still, I controlled my temper and told her the meaning of it.

Here is the email conversation…

My motive to share this story is that I want her to know that when a writer(esp a young one) comes up with a story, he or she has dreams in her/his eyes and people like her can’t ruin that… They can’t just smash it under their hatred… I consider myself as a breathing, living creature and I need to be dealt with compassion and kindness and after all, every language has its own sweetness. No one has the right to mock it or spit bad about it, and honestly, such judgements are good for nothing.

And here, I have a question that, if the representatives of a leading publication house like Bloomsbury maltreat the young writers, then can we imagine that there will be educated people and writers in the future? Her behavior just buried down my hopes within a second and I’m sure, not only mine, but there must be many writers that would’ve experienced such things by so-called famous publication houses.
