Faryal Makhdoom, the wife of former British boxer Amir Khan, faced criticism for her outfit choice at the recent Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah. In response to the backlash, she took to Instagram to share her perspective and clarify misconceptions.

In a lengthy note accompanying five pictures with her husband and Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt, Faryal addressed the criticism regarding her dress. She explained that her Umrah visit was unplanned, and she had been invited to the film festival. While her dress for the event was pre-planned, her Umrah trip wasn’t. Faryal emphasized that her dress was not overly revealing, and she shouldn’t have to compromise her actions based on clothing choices.

Expressing her commitment to personal growth as a Muslim, Faryal makhdoom stated that she is working on bettering herself every day. However, she highlighted that she is not a Hijabi and urged people to stop expecting her to dress like one. Faryal emphasized her experience of being in Saudi Arabia, surrounded by like-minded individuals who spoke up about Palestine at the film festival.

In another Instagram post, Faryal acknowledged her ongoing journey in refining her style and way of dressing. She reassured her followers that change takes time, and she is consciously working on aligning her choices with her faith. Faryal expressed gratitude for the love from her followers but requested understanding, acknowledging that some comments can be hurtful. She concluded by asking for compassion, acknowledging human imperfections, and seeking Allah’s guidance for everyone.

The Red Sea International Film Festival was attended by various Lollywood stars, including Amir Khan, Mahira Khan, Humayun Saeed, Ahad Raza Mir, Samina Humayun Saeed, and Sana Shahnawaz, along with international celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Andrew Garfield, Nicolas Cage, Joel Kinnaman, and Henry Golding.
