It’s been a week since you tied the knot

Is Aunt Flo already there?

Maan banged my door every morning what not

Asking me when I will give her an heir?

A son you shall bear it’s an order I tell you

Not two, but three or four

I wailed to my husband how will we make four boys?

And he said

Just ignore

I told my mother what Maan desires

To which her eyes popped open wide

She showed me glistening gold jhumkaas

That I had never seen in my life

I will gift those to you on the day she said

You will bring a grandson in my life

I wailed to my husband about what my mother said

And he replied

Just ignore

At last, I am with good news I smiled

With all the women on a prayer mat

Whilst I am hoping for a healthy child

I know what the other women are at

The day has come and we feel elated

Cuddling the bundle of joy in our hands

But it’s a moment which Maan dreaded

A girl child – She never understands

I wailed to my husband about Maan’s swollen eyes

And he spoke

Just ignore

Now that I am a mother myself

I shall not repeat what my mama had done

How can you, being born a woman yourself

Torture others to bear a son

You do not become superior the moment you bear a boy

Daughters and sons are always a blessing

Pink or blue, both bring equal joy

My daughter is bright, active and loving

She is successful and loves to explore

I wailed to my husband Maan is forcing her granddaughter to bear a son

And he told me to

Just ignore
