Visiting graveyard is considered as one of the best practice to remind oneself of the reality of the death. Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said that “Whoever wants to visit a graveyard, let him do so because it reminds us of the Hereafter.” – Riyad Us Saliheen Book 1 Hadith 582

In another narration, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) explained the benefit of visiting a graveyard for both the deceased one and the one who is praying. It is stated in hadith that, “When a person dies, his deeds are cut off except for three: Continuing charity, the knowledge that others benefited from, and a righteous son who supplicates for him.” – Jami at-Tirmidhi Book 13 Hadith 1376

What Does Holy Prophet Say About Reciting Surah Yaseen In Graveyard?

It has been seen that most of the people usually recite Surah Yaseen in the graveyard or on the deceased ones. It has even become a tradition in our society that the Quran Khawani for the people who have passed is focused on the recitation of Surah Yaseen only. Narrated Ma’qil ibn Yasar: The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Recite Surah Yaseen over your dying men. This is the version of Ibn al-Ala” – Sunan Abu Dawood Book 21 Hadith 3115

Anas (RA) narrated that the Prophet (PBUH), said, “Whoever enters a graveyard and reads Surah Yasin, Allah will lessen the punishment of the deceased and the reciter’s reward will be according to the number of people buried there.”

1. Unlimited Rewards!

“Whoever recites Yaseen once, Allah will record the reward of reciting the Quran ten times.” (Tirmidhi)

2. Recite If You Are Seeking Forgiveness!

“Whoever recites Surah Yaseen seeking God’s pleasure, the Almighty Allah will forgive him and grant him the reward of reciting the whole Qur’an twelve times.” (Majma’ul-Bayan vol. 8, p.647)

3. It Includes The Virtues Of Both The Worlds!

“Surat Yaseen is called in Torah ‘the Inclusive’. The Prophet (PBUH) was asked why it was called ‘the Inclusive’. He replied: For it includes the virtues of this world and the next; it repels the calamities of this world from its reciter as well as the horror of the hereafter.” (Noorul-Thaqalayn vol. 4 p.373)
