Every day, we women experience numerous forms of harassment. A lot of us ignore it willingly or unwillingly but now is the time for us to raise our voice against such perverts and tell them that women are NOT weak. A similar case happened with a girl who was recently harassed in a private cab.

So, it was a Sunday when she booked a Careem ride along with her friends like any other customer. She booked her ride from Sindhi Muslim (Karachi) and after few minutes, she saw that her ride drove away to the opposite side of the road.

The girl called the captain again and politely requested to come to the other side but he hung up on her saying, “baray nakhray hain app logon ke” (you all are throwing tantrums). After that, he rolled down his car window and with a hand gesture, ordered them to come to him instead; which seemed very offensive. So, they decided to call the customer service and lodge a complaint, which they dealt with very nicely.

Unfortunately, this was just the beginning of a headache for her as the driver deliberately shared her personal number on many social media platforms for so-called “Fraaandship”. And since then, she has been getting over 1000 calls, messages, Whatsapp messages, and calls for which she reached out for help on social media asking how to block such numbers?

Just so you know, she did complain to cybercrime and was told that this is a case of FIA. However, we got to know that Careem had fired the captain after this incident. Since then, Careem adds one more option in their call-to-captain option where you can call the designated captain without sharing your number.

Though the number of calls and messages is low, one can imagine the mental stress/torture she was going through. It’s very easy for all of us to say, “change your number” or “ignore those calls”, but it isn’t this harassment? Shouldn’t all of those callers and the concerned driver be put in jail for this? At least one example of punishment will be enough to stop all this nonsense. What do you think about this case? Share your comments below.
