Talk about harassment being common nowadays, it is  More and more girls are now being harassed out in the public by men, shamelessly. Yup and that is not something we’re proud of living in the Islamic state of Republic.

There are some who get offended when this topic is discussed, but the question is, Why should it not be discussed? Why is it so hard for the ‘guys’ to absorb the reality and how it is not okay to harass a girl who’s simply minding her own business! Why is it okay for a guy to hoot at her, throw his number at her, wink at her or whistle at her or at times, start singing or humming… What explanation does a guy have for this?

Recently, another incident took place where Wardah, aged 21, who is a software engineering student travels via Chingchi to attend her classes since it is more affordable for her. She shared her story saying that she is usually harassed and receives comments on her by the passers-by whenever she sits in the back seat.

Here’s what she had to say:

Wardah Nasir is a 21-year-old software engineering student. She uses public transport to attend classes at her university three times a week. Travelling in a Chingchi, is cheaper but full of drama, she says.

“If I get a seat at the back it can get very awkward very fast. Other drivers start hooting or passing rude comments. Sometimes motorcyclists will try to get close and throw pieces of paper [with their numbers on it] inside the Chingchi,” she explained.

“There have been times people have followed me home and passed comments about my complexion,” she said.
When it gets too much, she sternly asks them: “What is your problem?”

Warda says, “The only way women can deal with this is by being bold and confident.”
“My mother tells me that I should have more confidence. She says, “Agar tum abhi darr jao gi to aagaye ja kar kya karogi? How will you face problems in the future?” she added as she fixed her scarf before taking a seat in the Chingchi and heading home.

We appreciate how her mother has supported her and has set an example of raising a confident daughter which has now become necessary for all the girls out there who travel alone on a daily basis and get harassed. And, it will also prove to be better for her future as well. Adding to her story, Wardah also added that it is not in the clothes but the mentality which most of the girls are blamed for.

It is indeed the sick mentality.
