Living in a society where people in general thrash women like an object, in fact, not like an object but a disposable one. It’s not about Pakistan or India, but any country which is under development faces more problem getting women’s right than many privileged countries. What is women’s right? Every time a woman is snatched of her personal belongings or is beaten up or raped, this includes marital rape as well. That is where the violence starts from.

We tend to neglect these issues as our society is sheep-minded and would brush this off just as a “social issue” like many others that go unnoticed. Studies show that in the last 10 years, violence in Pakistan on women has increased by 13%. The heinous “women hating” practices that take place in rural Pakistan are far worse. Here is an example of how it’s not the less educated who steal women of their rights but belong to the elite class of Pakistan.

This woman shared a very precise but strong story of how a year ago, she was forced to move out of London by her mother-in-law who even took her passport and jewelry and other belongings.

She wrote sharing a nostalgic memory with the ticket from last year:

Today marks the 1 year anniversary of the best thing that Allah had planned for me.
1 year ago today I was forced to leave the UK by my ex-mother in law and abandoned in Pakistan without my passport and jewellery or any personal belonging. 1 year down and I still don’t have my jewelry but I have the most supportive family, the best of friends and new found immense happiness and I’m following my dreams!
Here’s to many years of happiness and freedom without anyone keeping you locked up at home, ridiculing you, stealing your pay and your jewelry and making you feel worthless.

I hope any girl/woman reading this knows that there is light at the end of the tunnel , and good things happen to those who get out of shitty marriages

A memory from the past…

She further added to the story all the minute details of how she traveled without her passport and her jewelry:

“I was working in the UK as a doctor , one week before I travelled, I was asked by my mother in law and husband that I will be travelling to pakistan for a vacation with my entire in laws. A couple of days before the expected journey, my mother in law told me to hand over all my jewellery to her so she can put in her locker. All my mothers side of the jewellery was in the UK, previously asked for because my mother in law kept asking my mother to send it all for paying zakat ( even though my mother was already doing that).”

“2 days before the journey, my husband told me that he will not be travelling with me because of work, and that he has already handed over my passport to his mother for the journey. Throughout the journey, my mother in law held on to my passport and showed it herself at immigration etc. When we arrived in Islamabad, she told me to go to my parents house and said she will keep my passport with her for safe keeping. That was how I was abandoned in Islamabad since after that, they made no contact to return my jewellery or my pay (which would go into a joint account and my husband blocked my access the moment I landed ) and my passport. I filed a case against them, and due to their deniability I never revived my money, my passport and my jewellery. I got a new passport but the pay they proved was spent entirely by me or given in rent.”

“As for why I travelled without my jewellery or allowed them to take me without my husband, at that point in my life and after constant mental abuse , I was too scared to speak up against my husband or my mother in law.”

She wrote how her passport was snatched and they didn’t even return her belongings but rather, asked her to leave the UK and go to Pakistan empty-handed. But, she proved herself a phoenix and rose from ashes! Now, exactly after a year, she’s following her dreams and is happy than ever. More power to all such women who believe in themselves and always remember to get up again every time someone puts them down.
